Tuning acoustic performance of multi-chamber hybrid mufflers

چکیده

In this paper, we investigate the functional acoustic performance of multi-chamber mufflers using a numerical approach. The wave propagation governing in expansion chamber domains is first introduced and solved by finite element method. Our results selected muffler configurations are compared with reference predictions model experiments order to validate present procedure. Then, influence geometry characteristics typical hybrid multi-chambered (number sub-chambers, micro-perforated tube structure) on their sound transmission loss studied. obtained indicate that structure considered has strong effect acoustical performance, location high level resonances behavior strongly related number sub-chambers as well characteristics. By tuning geometrical parameters (e.g., having small perforation ratio), enable design higher (up 110 dB) at low frequencies (~ 195 Hz) but constraint space length 300 mm).

Acoustic attenuation performance analysis of multi-chamber reactive silencers

The multi-chamber reactive silencers are widely used to reduce engine exhaust noise as well as blower intake and discharge noise. Davis et al. [1] developed a one-dimensional analytical approach, which assumes plane wave propagation in the axial direction in silencers, to predict the acoustic attenuation performance of double expansion chamber reactive silencers, and compared the predictions wi...

Acoustic attenuation performance of perforated dissipative mufflers with empty inlet/outlet extensions

The acoustic behavior of perforated dissipative circular mufflers with empty extended inlet/outlet is investigated in detail by means of a two-dimensional (2D) axisymmetric analytical approach that matches the acoustic pressure and velocity across the geometrical discontinuities, and the finite element method (FEM). The complex characteristic impedance, wavenumber, and perforation impedance are...

Shape Optimal Design on Double-Chamber Mufflers Using Simulated Annealing and a Genetic Algorithm

Whilst the space volume of mufflers in a noise control system is often constrained for maintenance and operation in practical engineering work, the maximization of the muffler’s performance becomes essential. In this paper, both simulated annealing (SA) and a genetic algorithm (GA) are applied simultaneously. A numerical case of pure tone noise control is introduced. Before optimization, one ex...

Analysis of Radial Baffle Effects on Acoustic Characteristics of a Combustion Chamber

An efficient finite volume approach has been used to develop a three dimensional Helmholtz acoustic solver for complex geometries. This acoustic solver was utilized to obtain characteristic mode shapes and frequencies of a baffled combustion chamber. An experimental setup, including stationary and moving sensors, has also been used to measure these quantities for the same model combustion chamb...
